Esperanto is 100%-- but is Cherokee??
If they do have a membership-- next-- ask nicely--
ask if you can see their card.
Look at it closely.
Notice there is NO English on it at all. It is 100% in Esperanto
DID YOU KNOW?
Esperanto, as a language, has only existed for 128 years.
Today, there are between 100,000 and 2,000,000 people worldwide who fluently or actively speak Esperanto, including perhaps 1,000 native speakers who learned Esperanto from birth.
If the Esperanto folks can use Esperanto- why can't the Cherokee cards be in Cherokee?
Sure, provide English too but put it in Cherokee first.
Just sayin'

Seeing Cherokee words.....
I agree it needed to be done.
[however I wish the syllabary was the larger on the signs and the English was the smaller and below the syllabary]
The idea is that we need to see MORE uses of Cherokee Syllabary.
I recently was handed a card from a federally recognized Cherokee person.
Very little on the card would indicate this person was Cherokee.
Oh yes, it identified the tribe, their enrollment, and their name but it was ALL IN ENGLISH!
None of the important stuff was written in Cherokee syllabary; it was ALL in ENGLISH!
If this language is going to thrive and not just survive or barely make it, then EVERYTHING needs to prominently display Cherokee syllabary.
Sure, ok, as a concession, translate it somewhere in English, but put the PRIMARY information on your membership cards in SYLLABARY at least!
Cherokee language needs to move from the 'sometimes' used status it has been relegated to and return to a position of prominent use if it is to thrive.
Its not enough for a few places and people to use it. Everyone needs to get involved.
a quick way you can help? write Facebook and demand they allow the transliteration of English profile names into Cherokee Syllabary

Reviving Language CAN be done! we can DO this!
28 years ago Hawaii had only 50 fluent speakers, but today they have more than 10,000 fluent speakers-- HOW did they do this? The state’s education system supports immersion programs to teach the language throughout school.
“Their language and culture is taught in all grade levels, and into college and university programs—from early childhood education to PhD,” says the press release. “They now have more than 10,000 fluent Hawaiian speakers.”
How can we help increase the use of Cherokee as a language?Get ready to celebrate!
March 31---- I am asking EVERYONE to commemorate National Indigenous Languages Day--March 31 is National Aboriginal Languages Day in Canada. Even if you are not Canadian you can still celebrate!
The day has been celebrated by Indigenous Peoples since 1993 as a way to honor the strength and endurance of aboriginal languages and cultures.
Please-- even if you are NOT Canadian-- lets remember the importance of the heart languages of the native people of this continent and let us all Celebrate National Aboriginal Languages Day! You have 2 weeks to get ready!
Plan an event-- get others in your community involved- learn a new word
or try this-- support the effort to get Facebook to allow profile names in Cherokee-- change YOUR profile name to Cherokee syllabary!
The Billboard in Cherokee, NC indicates there are only 218 Cherokee speakers left in western North Carolina. Help us increase that number!
